How much do people really think about religion?

Seriously.

I'm out and about most of the day and see people driving around, walking or doing whatever they do in their everyday lives.

It hits me. I thought about doing random surveys (just a thought, as I'll probably never conduct such a survey).

I was thinking though. If religion and god is apparently so important to people, you would think they would think about it quite a bit. I hardly believe this is true at all.

No. People are more concerned about other things than what they go to church on Sunday for. For most people, I would guess that the salvation of their soul is the last thing on their mind while they go about their daily lives. People aren't thinking about a god whilst they are at the supermarket shopping, at their doctor's office for a check-up or combing their hair while driving to work.

How has religion become such a hot topic? After all, it is really a battleground between hardcore factions that do not represent the whole of society.

Most people really don't give a flying fuck about the "religion" debate. Most people I talk to refrain from such a discussion.

Is it a non-issue?
