I know this isn't an atheism topic, but I've been thinking about just posting other than atheist woes. In other words; integrating my political/cultural/whatever views as well.
Universal health care:
I was thinking: What if I were some transient with no health care insurance whatsoever? Can anybody put themselves into those shoes? We would invariably have to seek out some free clinic or resort to whatever emergency care we could find if some health issue needed some immediate attention.
Now, according to our current health care system in the US you may very well be minimally "treated" if not flat out turned away.
As far as I know, we can only afford health care through our employer. Which is bullshit, because of two things,,,
1) It should not be up to employers to provide a health care plan to their employees. This relegates the responsibility of finding the best coverage onto the employer. Is this free-market? Is this giving the end consumer the end choice they seek to find satisfaction with some product given to them by an intercessory party? No. It doesn't. Employer-based health coverage choices should be abolished. What do we replace it with? Look to the title of this post.
2) Health insurance is a total rip-off. Actually all insurance is a total rip-off. Think about it. Years and years you pay on your car insurance. When was the last time you filed a claim? Personally I have NEVER filed a claim. Tens of thousands of dollars I've spent on something that really amounts to nothing. A something that MAY happen but never has. In the end does one think that the insurance companies are going to stand behind ones claims? Yeah, right.
So what makes everybody shut-up and go on and pay those insurance bills? Stupidity. Ok, that's kinda harsh. How about complacency? Yeah, I love that word. It describes quite a whole lot of how we live our lives. How we just let things happen. Like poverty and war and hunger and disease.
I'm disgusted with the human race, very thoroughly. I'm disgusted with myself for not knowing the right words or the right way to get the groove on. To get people going about this.
It really sucks not to be the mover and the shaker.
