Right and Wrong...Does it Come from God?

If you said yes...horse shit.

The irony here is that with my simple succinct answer I have explained why I think that religion itself is not the root of all our ills (a catalyst certainly), but not the root of the crucial problems facing humanity today. Well, what is it? Us.

Why did I simply say: horse shit? Because I don't believe in a god. While I don't believe in a god it is veritably impossible for me to ascribe a "moral code" to him/her/it.

When somebody believes in a god or higher power that influences mankind, they also believe that this higher power influences atheists as well, regardless of what we think or "believe". After all, there are no atheists in fox-holes, right? What the fuck ever.

Back to the catalyst argument. Religion seems to have polarized people, hell not just atheists. I would say atheists are the least polarized about religion. We're not out there bombing abortion clinics and killing in the name of atheism. And anybody who counters with the Hitler/Stalin/Mao argument...I say this: Fuck you!.

I am not a NAZI or communist (though I do have a strong socialist lean). It's like accusing every atheist for the atrocities committed by these socio-pathic, ego-centric dip-shits. Just like accusing everyday Christians for the atrocities committed during countless Crusades, Inquisitions and other "manifest destinies".

These men did NOT kill people because they were atheist. They killed people for their own twisted notion of morality. And it just so happens that they were fascist. Which is where I see this fine country of ours going (in the mainstream). Call me kooky for thinking that, but when I constantly here the so-called "war" on terror and other bantering, I can't help but think of Hitler's cleansing of the Jews. After all, in the minds of the German people then Hitler's rhetoric echoed the sentiments of a great many people. They believed it and were complacent with the notion that it would be okay if they would just "disappear".

It's not about whether right and wrong comes from god. It's about what you are convinced to believe what is right and wrong. And those who are wrong get the shit end of the stick.
