Source: ATHEIST HAVEN: Part 2- Inventing Your Own Religion
Sorry, I didn't read this post (I'll get to it.)
I was directed here by my Tina (my mom).
Shaun said: "...when parents and preachers and Sunday schools screw up, the result is a bunch of hell bound atheists..."
How would you then explain those atheists who've never once grew up in a Christian lifestyle? I never went to church until I met my wife (I hated it and saw it exactly for what it was worth; a sham). I was 24 then (11 years ago).
I never "grew up in the church". That's not the fault of "parents, preachers and Sunday schools" that screw up. It seems you are blaming Christians who aren't "real" Christians. What is a "real" Christian anyway? All of 'em will tell you something different.
What is the problem with this? This difference of opinion. The fucking collateral damage to the rest of us. What is this collateral damage? Look in the mirror. You've been brainwashed and indoctrinated to believe in the biggest lies the world has ever known. I don't even care if this sounds offensive or not because in the end I'm not going to get mad and go blow up a church or something. As Christians blow up abortion clinics and such. As all other deeply, fundamentalist terrorist, religious zealots do. I don't see any terrorist atheists around do you?
DRD: You DON'T need religion to know what right and wrong is. What this delves into is the societal concept of right and wrong. In ancient Egypt many pharaoh married their sisters and nobody frowned down on that. Today it's considered wrong...
This is getting long so I am posting on my Comment response on Atheist Haven
...to do so. In context, I myself consider it wrong to exploit and consume animals (I'm vegan and NOT for health reasons). I think their should be laws against it. This would never fly as the majority rules. And the social climate is not ripe for such legislation. Everybody has a concept of what is right and wrong. In the bible many figures thereof partook of bigamy and polygamy. Does that make it right? It's the zeitgeist that dictates right and wrong. Not a god.
My point is that we live in a diverse society and who is to say what is right and wrong? Gay marriage? A day will come when it is accepted. However horrifying that sounds to Christians (or other gay-bashing religious zealots).
According to me anybody who puts stock in a 2000 year old text, supposedly writ by sheep-herders, are fucking morons and should have their asses pulled out of their heads.
End point: When a Christian comes to your blog be prepared to be bombarded with a shitload of...well, shit. Why do I say this? Well, for one they've been BRED to spout scripture and a great many of them don't even fucking know it. This is why I garner no quarter. People who think they know what is best for me don't fucking know ME. And they don't understand that their "zeitgeist" influences me too (and I fucking hate it).
Oh..."Accept Jesus into your heart and you will be saved." From what? Hell? Eternal damnation? Because they believe in this bullshit doesn't mean that I do. It doesn't make it real. It doesn't justify reality "on the ground". What justifies pain and suffering and terror on earth? A so-called person who "died" for your sins? What the fuck ever! Personally I don't even BELIEVE the figment existed at all.
I am done. Remember: I'm not going to go bomb any churches after this post. Atheists/secularists/freethinkers don't do that thing.
