Sick of religion and sick of this country because of it.

Everyday I find myself becoming the "militant" atheist. I'm sick of religion. I'm sick of people not recognizing how invasive it is in our politics and our lives. I'm sick of people not recognizing the fundamental rights of us ALL.

I AM A CITIZEN OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!

I have rights. I can rely on the institutions of my government to uphold those rights. Bullshit. Did you know that in most states, during custody battles the courts will take into account the "spiritual" well-being of the children in determining the placement of the children with a custodial parent? If you don't provide your children with a religious education you're shit out of luck.

Most "patriots" will say to "get the hell out then", "you don't know how good you got it here". Don't I? Can I run for president without backlash? Without being discriminated against for not believing in a god? No. The statistics bare me out.

"In God We Trust" and "One Nation Under God" do not fit into the political landscape of THIS American citizen. This great country prides itself on the notion that "all men are created equal", but it isn't so. I'm sick of hypocrisy. Granted our republic and society in general evolves. It has it's ups and downs. Ever since the aftermath of WWII we've seen what the "establishment" thinks of "godless" government embodied in the then Soviet Union, a communist government that had no friendly feelings about religion. Somehow the separation clause was left on the wayside of the political debate beginning with Joseph McCarthy and his goons...

"Man! That was a little more than half a century ago. What are you getting at?" you ask.

It's not gone away. In the span of human existence this republic is VERY young. I see McCarthyism alive and well today. People believe that their values and way of life are threatened. Post-cold war enemies abound. This time we are engaging in tactics best suited to the middle-ages. Yes, the Crusades.

The war on terror by any other name is a war on Islam. No? Do me a favor and conjure up an image in your head of a terrorist.

It's a war of safe-guarding our national interest as well, but what is that interest? To perpetuate and safe-guard our values as a country. To keep the status quo alive and well.

Here's my take. Kill religion. It really is a disease. Call me fanatical, call me off my rocker. The thing is though that I think this country and the world would be a much better place without it.

I am a dangerous threat. I dissent from the norm. I DO NOT crave to belong. I DO NOT long to conform. I don't what to be a cookie-cut flag waving cross bearing moron that believes everything I am told.

THAT IS BEING A FREETHINKER!

The only acceptable solution is to accept Jesus Christ as my lord and saviour. And that ain't gonna fuckin' happen. EVER.

Sweden sounds nicer everyday.
