The soft drink giant Coca-Cola Company has filed suit against the U.S. government today on the grounds of trademark infringement. The target of the suit is specifically related to the Bush administrations use of the term "Surge" in it's maneuvers to use that term as a "branding" strategy in relation to it's recent, what most military analysts would call, military "escalation".
A company insider and lobbyist, John Smith, relates a conversation he had with an unnamed Bush administration cabinet member concerning the now defunct soft-drink beverage. Smith claims that this conversation concerned FDA documents involving the approval of the soft drink in question but later moved onto discussions of foreign affairs and the military in particular. Smith goes on to say that "It's not clear, but it appears that [the unnamed cabinet member] was quite interested in the particular name of our company's product. Looking back now I can see why. It's uncanny!"
Smith continues to relate that he later got in touch with the marketing department of Coca-Cola Inc. and the rest was history. "Our product was pulled off the shelves in advance of the Bush administrations bungling of the name of our product," says John Smith, marketing director of Coca-Cola (no relation to John Smith).
Smith goes on to ask the question "Is it trademark infringement? I guess we'll find out in court!"
A spokesperson for the Department of Defense, John Smith (again, no relation), was contacted for comment.
"It's BALONEY!" he said.
After a pause, this journalist stated "No, it's a soft drink."
